Update to the AMW Sector Overview

The new AMW Sector Overview, written by the AMW Council, has as its motto “dealing with a changing environment and society.”

The first AMW Sector Overview from 2021 focused on the convergence of earth sciences and environmental sciences, as well as the collaboration of the entire AMW sector on a dozen integrated research themes to address the most current and urgent societal challenges at the time.

The update to the AMW Sector Overview builds on the previous report and introduces several key changes. Recent social, (geo)political, and economic developments, both nationally and internationally, have brought new challenges to light and made existing challenges more urgent. These intensified social challenges form the starting point for the new Sector Profile. At the same time, they guide shifts in AMW research themes compared to those in the previous Sector Overview. The AMW sector can thus contribute more effectively to solutions through research and education. Further cooperation plays a central role in this: in addition to strengthened (inter)disciplinary cooperation among AMW universities, collaboration is being expanded to encompass the entire knowledge chain, with other sectors and, in particular, with other research institutions and universities of applied sciences.
